Overheating is one of the most common issues that affects Hitachi projectors. The projector may be working then it starts to get randomly warmer, and after a couple of minutes or hours, it shuts down without any warning.
Two issues may cause overheating in your Hitachi projectors. First, the problem could be a damaged fan. If anything is blocking the fan or it’s damaged, then the projector will overheat and shut down to prevent damage to the internal components.
Dust in the filter could also prevent the projector from spinning at the required speed. To fix this, use an air duster to blow away the dust from the fan/vent.
Hitachi Projector Not Turning On
If your Hitachi projector is not turning on or responding, the issue could be a loose or unplugged cable. Make sure all the power cables are properly connected to the power outlet and your projector. Then press the power button. If the issue persists, we recommend unplugging the cable and plugging it into a different outlet.
If the projector is still not turning on, replace the cable. Always consult your dealer to get a new cable. Another reason why your projector is not turning on stems from a faulty power supply. So, check if the power supply is correctly connected to the projector.

If your Hitachi projector screen displays “No signal,” then the device is unable to find a digital source to project. Issues that could cause this include:
- Damaged HDMI projector port
- HDMI cable not plugged in properly
- Damaged HDMI source device port
- Incorrect input on projector settings
- Damaged HDMI cable
From the issues above, we point out that the main cause is hardware-related not software related. The only exception is the incorrect input on projector settings. The good news is the issues above are fixable.
Simply evaluate the problem, then try to connect your HDMI cable to a different device. Alternatively, you can use another HDMI cable or restart your projector and source device. Lastly, change the input settings on your source device.
Why is there no sound coming out of my Hitachi projector? Well, the problem could be the audio cable connection. So, check the HDMI connection between your video source and projector. Turn on your projector and select the HDMI port you’re using. If any HDMI audio settings are available, adjust them.
If there is no audio yet, try disconnecting and then reconnecting the HDMI cable. If the mute function is working, you can restore sound by pressing mute or volume +/-. Also, if the volume is extremely low, adjust to a higher level using the remote.
You can also get external speakers for better sound quality.
Lamp and Temp Light Blinking
A flashing lamp light means the projector light failed to ignite. The problem could be a lamp failure or a lamp driver problem. To resolve the issue, replace the lamp. If the issue persists, then it could be a circuit problem. We recommend that you get in touch with the Hitachi service center.
If the temp light is blinking, then the issue could be overheating, or your projector requires cleaning. Simply turn off the projector and allow it to cool for 20 minutes. Then check for air intake or fan obstructions.
Hitachi Projector Keeps Turning Off
If your projector keeps turning off, it could mean the projector entered standby mode. It’s common for a projector to do so, and it happens after a period of inactivity. To wake the projector, simply push the power button.
Another reason could be overheating. If this is the issue, the power and temp light will turn red. To resolve the issue, allow your projector to cool then find out why your projector is overheating.
Lastly, a filter sensor detected a clogged filter. To resolve the problem, vacuum or replace the filter.
Hitachi Projector Image Upside Down
You may find that your projector is displaying a flipped image. The issue could be you hit the wrong button on the remote. To resolve the problem, press the Menu button on the remote, select the Extended menu then press “Enter.”
Use the Up and Down arrow buttons and select “Projection” then from the options displayed, select “Front/Ceiling.” The image should now display correctly.
Hitachi Projector Troubleshooting: FAQs
How Can I Reset My Hitachi Projector?
Press the menu button on your Hitachi projector or the remote control. Then navigate to the Advanced Settings and select “Restore factory default settings.” We also recommend checking the user guide for specific steps to reset your Hitachi projector.
How Do I Replace My Hitachi Projector Lamp?
Turn off the Hitachi projector and unplug the power cord from the outlet. Allow the projector to cool for 40 to 50 minutes or until it’s cool to the touch. If you already mounted your projector on the ceiling, avoid standing underneath it while opening the cover.
Loosen the screws of the lamp cover, and the lamp then remove it and insert the new lamp. Take care not to touch the bulb as the oil on your fingers can cause a dark spot when the lamp heats up.
How Do I Focus My Hitachi Projector?
Press the Focus + or Focus – button on your remote control or your projector to display the Focus box on the screen. Then use the same buttons to adjust the screen focus. After focus adjustment, wait until the Focus menu disappears, then proceed to watch your videos.
How Can I Check Airflow in Hitachi Projectors?
If your Hitachi projector displays a “Check the Airflow” message, it means the internal temperature is rising. So, turn the power off and allow the projector to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
Confirm if there is blockage of the air passage aperture or if the air filter is dirty. Also, check if the unit is within the normal temperature range – 0 to 45 degrees C and that the exhaust air is too hot. If yes to blockage of the air passage aperture or the filter is dirty, have it cleaned.
How Can I View My Hitachi Projector’s Warranty?
You can check your projector’s owner’s manual or its packaging as warranties are usually included there. Alternatively, you can visit Hitachi’s website and, using the projector’s model number, look up its warranty. Or simply contact the manufacturer.
With a Hitachi projector, you can turn one of the empty walls in your home into a screen and watch your favorite TV shows, movies, and sports. Besides watching movies, you can also play games or display business presentations.
Occasionally, your projector may become too hot and turn off automatically. On other occasions, there would be no signal, no sound, and no input detected. These problems are common, but without resolving them fast, you can shorten the life of your projector.
